Hiii ‘Lancer,

I get asked this a lot: “What should I post on LinkedIn?”

It’s a fair question. A lot of us know we should be posting, but we don’t know what to actually say.

So we either post generic advice that sounds like everyone else, overthink it and post nothing, or share random thoughts that don’t really position us as experts.

I’ve been there. Still am some days, honestly.

But over time, I’ve figured out eight types of posts that consistently work for me. The kind that showcases what I do and attracts the right people.

Here’s what I post (and why):

1. Client testimonials

I’ll screenshot a message from a happy client or share a quote they gave me. Then I add some context about the project and what made it work.

Why? Because social proof matters. When potential clients see that other people trust me, it’s easier for them to reach out.

2. My process

I walk people through how I approach a project. It could be my research process, how I structure a blog post, or how I work with clients.

Why? It demystifies what I do. Shows I have a system, not just winging it every time.

3. A recent win

Landed a new client? Finished a big project? I share it. With specifics: what I delivered, what the outcome was, and why it mattered.

Why? It shows I’m actively working, not just talking about freelancing. Plus, momentum attracts more momentum.

4. Lessons from projects

What did I learn from my last client? A mistake I made? A strategy that worked better than I expected?

Why? It shows I’m reflective and always learning. And honestly, people relate to the messy stuff more than the polished wins.

5. Behind-the-scenes moments

Working on a brief at 11 PM? Interviewing an SME? Researching a niche topic? I share it.

Why? It humanizes me. People forget there’s real work behind what freelancers do. Showing that reminds them.

6. Answering common questions

What do my clients always ask? “How long does it take?” “What’s your process?” “How do you handle revisions?”

I answer these publicly on LinkedIn.

Why? It addresses objections before prospects even reach out. And it positions me as someone who has clear answers.

7. My portfolio or work samples

I’ll post a link to something I published. Add context: who it was for, what the goal was, how it performed (if I have the data).

Why? Direct proof of what I can do. Makes it easy for prospects to see my work without digging through my profile.

8. Personal stories

How did I get into writing? Why did I choose B2B SaaS? What was my first client like?

Why? People connect with stories. Makes me memorable. And it builds a relationship before anyone ever DMs me.

Here’s What I’ve Noticed

All of these posts do one (or more) of three things:

  1. They showcase my expertise

  2. They build trust with potential clients

  3. They make me memorable

That’s really what personal branding on LinkedIn is about. Not motivational quotes or generic tips, but real evidence that you know what you’re doing and you’re someone worth working with.
