Your client said they’d send briefs two weeks ago.
They haven’t.
What do you do?
Nathan from 2022 would’ve panicked. “Do they not want to work with me anymore? Should I start looking for other clients?”
Nathan from last week did something different.
I reached out and asked, “Want me to create the briefs instead?”
They said yes.

Now I have more work. The client sees my strategic side. And I’m more valuable to them.
With AI making it easier to produce drafts, the writers who survive are the ones who can think strategically—not just execute.
That means showing you understand:
The type of content your client’s audience needs
How to structure it for maximum impact
Where it fits in their overall strategy
You don’t need to do hours of unpaid work. But showing a bit of your thinking is what turns you from “the writer” into “the partner.”
Small moves like offering to create briefs, suggesting content ideas, or helping with distribution make you harder to replace.
If you’ve been following my newsletter for a while, you know I talk a lot about finding clients, building portfolios, and positioning yourself strategically.
Which brings me to something I’m excited to share...
